Karl Nollenberger, Academic Director of the MPA Program, along with UIC's Dennis Judd, has authored a chapter (entitled "Urban Politics and Government in the Midwest") in the new book The American Midwest: An Intrepretive Encyclopedia, published by Indiana University Press.

Scott Peters was one of five faculty and staff to be recognized by Dean McMorris at the 2006 Dean's Excellence Awards, and one of two faculty to receive an award for excellence in teaching. Peters "teaches an astounding load" because he wants to serve students, said Dean McMorris, and was instrumental in outreach to China for the highly successful Master of Public Administration (MPA) program for Chinese officials.

Michael Marcus and his business partner were awarded the 2006/2007 National Institute on Senior Centers Research Award. The award was presented at the NISC's annual meeting held in Chicago on March 7 to 10. It was given for the research that was done in Montgomery County, PA.

The MPA Department held a job search seminar on how to refine one's skills on job searches and the sources for jobs within the government and nonprofit sectors. The presenters were Karl Nollenberger, Academic Director of the MPA Program, Harriet McCullough, Faculty in Nonprofit Management, and Michael Baker, Assistant City Manager in Downer's Grove, IL. The seminar covered resume writing, interview processes, and the sources for finding jobs in government and nonprofit sectors. The seminar was well-received and very successful.

Christina Drouet was recognized with the American Society of Public Administration Student of Year Award. It was presented at the University of Illinois - Chicago. Christina currently serves as the Manager of the Safety/Standards Branch within the Federal Aviation Administration regional airports division. She received her BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois - Chicago and is a MPA degree candidate. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her time here. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois, Virginia and Maryland. She is married with one child and lives in Park Ridge, IL. She is also an amateur violinist and avid gardener.

Patrick Burelle, city administrator, City of Aledo, IL was honored for service to the community by the Illinois City/County Management Association (ILCMA). Over a year ago, Patrick came to the community that had little history with codes or code compliance. As a long time code professional, he recognized that codes were essential for life safety and the protection of property and that code enforcement was an important contributor to quality of life. Patrick coordinated committee and town meetings, sought to educate and encouraged audience participation. Through his diligent efforts and hard work, the City of Aledo now has codes and policies that guide development and re-development and enhance the overall quality of life in the City of Aledo.
