APPLYING AS NON-DEGREE STUDENT
OR FOR A CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Admission Requirements

IIT requires a bachelor's degree conferred with a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.5/4.0 (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution for regular admission as a non-degree seeking or certificate student.

GRE: Not Required.

Application Materials

Please follow these instructions carefully.

The following documents must be completed and submitted to the Graduate Admissions Office before a decision can be made on your admission as a non-degree seeking or certificate student:

  1. A Graduate Admission Application Form , which you can submit online (preferable to submitting a paper application) at: http://iit-grad.gotoextinguisher.com/application/login/ (you will need to register for a username and password, login and then follow the directions given for completing the appropriate application).

  2. An Official Transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution that you have attended. The best way to obtain an official transcript is to have your former educational institution send it directly to Graduate Admissions Office at the address listed below.

  3. A $40 Graduate Application Fee. This fee is non-refundable. No fee is required from students who have previously applied to IIT and paid an application fee. For your convenience, the application fee can be paid online at: https://secure.assurebuy.com/90170/90170.htm

Changing to Degree-Seeking Status

Non-degree students seeking to convert to degree-seeking status must complete a regular application and request admission to a degree program prior to the completion of six credit hours of study. If a non-degree student applies for and is granted admission to a degree program, a maximum of nine credit hours of approved coursework taken as a non-degree student and passed with a grade of “B” or better may be applied to the degree.

International students cannot be admitted as non-degree students. Non-degree students who wish to continue to take courses as non-degree students beyond nine credit hours must declare, in writing, their respective intents not to pursue a degree program to the Graduate College’s Office of Academic Affairs.

More Information

If you have any questions about the application process, please email or call MPA Program Assistant Director/Admissions Coordinator Larry Ruffolo at ruffolo@iit.edu 312.906.5197.
