APPLYING FOR A MPA DEGREE
- INTERNATIONAL

Admission Requirements

IIT requires a bachelor's degree conferred with a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution for regular admission.

  1. GRE: Not Required.
  2. TOEFL minimum: 575/233/90 (Paper-based test score/computer-based test score/internet-based test score) for applicants who hold degrees from institutions where the primary language of instruction is not in English. Use institutional code 1318.

Please note that meeting the minimum GPA and TOEFL score requirements does not guarantee admission.

Application Materials

Please follow these instructions carefully.

The following documents must be completed and submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions before a decision can be made on your admission to the Program:

  1. An Application for Graduate Admission - International Form, which you can submit online (preferable to submitting a paper application) at: http://iit-grad.gotoextinguisher.com/application/login/ (you will need to register for a username and password, login and then follow the directions given for completing the appropriate application).

  2. A Professional Statement of at least two double-spaced typewritten pages, in which you should:
    1. State your understanding of what Public Administration involves.
    2. Explain your reasons for pursuing an advanced degree in Public Administration.
    3. Provide a summary of your professional life, highlighting your skills and what you consider to have been important influences and experiences.
    4. Indicate your professional goals and how you believe an MPA degree will help you attain your goals.

  3. An Official Transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution that you have attended. The best way to obtain an official transcript is to have your former educational institution send it directly to Graduate Admissions Office at the address listed below.

  4. Two (2) completed and signed Recommendation Forms or Letters from former professors or, for those applicants who have been working for some time, from current supervisors or colleagues who have reason to know your capabilities in terms of your skills, character and potential for graduate study. (You may use the pre-printed Recommendation Forms or have your recommender send a typewritten letter on their letterhead.)

  5. A $40 Graduate Application Fee. This fee is non-refundable. No fee is required from students who have previously applied to IIT and paid an application fee. For your convenience, the application fee can be paid online at: https://secure.assurebuy.com/90170/90170.htm

  6. Financial Affidavit. U.S. visa regulations require that all F or J visa holders must provide certified evidence that they will have adequate funds to meet expenses involved in a proposed program of study. The applicant may use the Financial Affidavit form provided by IIT. The Financial Affidavit must have the sponsor's guarantee of support for the first year. Section 3 of the form must bear the seal and signature of a government or bank official, or a bank statement of account bearing a seal and signature of the bank official and stating that the funds can be transferred, may be attached to the affidavit form. Please note that the affidavit and/or bank statement must be dated within six months. No photocopies are accepted. An I-20 or DS-2019 form cannot be issued to admitted international students unless the financial affidavit is on file and has been approved by the Office of Graduate Admission.
